Lemon Festival in Menton
From 17th March 2007 to 7th February 2007 in Menton
Menton invites the carnivals of the world : Guest of honour : India
For its 74th edition, the Lemon Festival - which will be held in Menton from February 17 to march 07, 2007 - has chosen to celebrate the carnivals of the world and INDIA will be the guest of honour.
The culture of this country will be a source of inspiration for the giant motifs entirely composed of citrus fruits - erected on the flower beds of the Jardins Biovès - as well as for the parade of floats decorated with oranges and lemons (« corso des fruits d’or ») which will pass along the sea front during the two weeks long festivities.
The Lemon Festival, a unique event in the world, attracts 200 000 visitors every year (a figure which is constantly progressing) . It is the second most important event on the Riviera after the Nice Carnival and just ahead of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix. More than 300 persons are employed on the project and 140 tonnes of citrus fruits are used.
As every year, the International Orchid Festival and the Menton Craft Fair (free entry) will be held at the same time in the Palais de l’Europe.
