Ibrahim Maalouf + Barbara Hendricks & The Magnus Lindgren Quartet
The 20th July 2008 in Nice
He who changed the trumpet world. Ibrahim Maalouf is a young, virtuoso trumpet-player; some say he practically reinvented the instrument. Jazzy to the core... with a hint of electro, all of which is bathed in an almost lascivious Mediterranean aura. Télérama Maalouf was born in war-torn Beyrouth in 1980. He is the nephew of Amin Maalouf (famed Lebanese writer), and the son of a rather unique trumpet player. His father invented a quarter-tone trumpet which is perfectly adapted to oriental makams. After accumulating a number of prizes, Maalouf opened himself up to all forms of music but jazz in particular because, like Arabic music, it tends to slip into free improvisation constantly. After a number of prestigious collaboration jobs (with Archie Shepp, Mathieu Chédid, or Angel Perra), he found his voice, a sort of electro-oriental jazz, in his who changed the trumpet world. It is a subtle blend of East and West, with classical, funk, jazz, electro and traditional Arab vibes.
