The 16th Century virtuoso... Bach was from a family of musicians: traditionally all had been fiddlers, organ-players or cantors in Thuringia as far back as the 16th Century. Orphaned at age 10, he learned the organ, the harpsicord, the violin and singing - a training which granted him a solid knowledge base. Alongside this official education, Bach was self-taught in many ways, and it is through hours of careful study of notorious composers' works that he assimilated the complex art of composition...
